I think this is one of those rare cases where I would rather not know!

Obviously I’ve never written an autobiography, but I am struggling to see why this would be a remotely relevant inclusion. I mean… ?????

To be fair Tom, several people write of this topic in their autobiographies - for example Roger Moore, Spike Milligan, Mark Haig, Jason Manford and the comic who wrote "My Booky Wooky" whose name escapes me.

Russell Brand. I'd forgotten all about him! One of those who was all over our screens and so forth all the time, and then suddenly wasn't. Is he circumcised? (I've never read the book ...)

Sorry Will - I got the book wrong. Russell Brand is intact, is it Jason Lee Collins?. It was another of those here today, gone tomorrow TV personalities. I think the heat is getting to me.

If I was famous enough to write an autobiography I would definitely mention my circumcisions (infant and later revisions) and our sons’ circumcisions as well. It is definitely something that defines us, something that we view as very important, and certainly nothing to be embarrassed about.

Hey Tim - there's no need to be famous. You can do it right here in The Locker Room! Drop us a line...

I think the reason I wouldn't write about it is because of something I read years ago. A woman had accused a famous man of rape, and had mentioned his circumcision status as "evidence". The man concerned had been heavily rumoured to be circumcised, so she might or might not have used this information in her complaint. I don't think the man concerned ever confirmed or denied the claims (apart from the denial of rape). As the man concerned is still in the public eye I won't name him or his accuser, but I think any information you give out, especially in such an intimate area of the body, is a bit like encouraging computer crime by giving your password out.

Mark, that’s a very good point. That sort of knowledge could be used dangerously against a famous person. As not famous people, my partner and I are happy everyone knowing that our sons and I are circumcised as it is important to us.

What British men are packing downstairsMore than one in five British men are circumcised (helmets/roundheads), but a lot of our cut brothers have grown up feeling isolated. Categories
