His father was a Church of Ireland minister and his mother was Church of England, not Jewish

It says on Wikipedia his mother was Jewish.

It was his grandfather who was a minister.

I was replying to the statement that "Cecil Day-Lewis was Jewish", not about Daniel Day-Lewis.

Danny - ye his mum was Jill Balcon who was the daughter of the head of Ealing Films, Sir Michael Balcon but I seem to remember years ago that his father was too (I think a waspish reference by Evelyn Waugh)

I got circumcised at the age of 26 and still get spontaneous erections 14 years later aged 41, do you have the same issue as me or has your sensitivity become less?

Andy, this question seems to keep cropping up. Are you desperate to know you are not the only one :) ;)

Markus, I take your point - sometimes it is the sheer surprise of seeing a British guy cut that gives the most pleasure. About ten years ago I went out with a fair haired blue eyed bloke who looked almost Germanic. He came from Stepney in East Londion and I was astonished he was cut, so I assumed he "he had to be" ichildhood, but I was really surprised when he told me he was done at birth (he had been born in a BUPA hospital as his dad had private medical insurance from his work). Some of the biggest surprises for me has come on this site from the likes of James Sutton, an "ordinaty" TV actor from Sutton Coldfield and Matt Healy of the 1975 (though I don't much ike him) whose parents were working class actors. I always have hopes for Tony Clay, but I would be very surprised if he was - born in 1991 in South London to working class parents. The posher blokes don't surprise me - at one time the foreskins of upper middle or upper class toffs was removed, you might say, as a foregone conclusion to show their posh status.

We will never discriminate against Jewish or Muslim men and not include them here because of a presumption of their circumcision status. There are many famous Jewish and Muslim celebrities not included here because we have no evidence.

It's not about discrimination. A massive percentage of men across the world are cut but a massive majority of those are Muslim. It's pretty obvious and almost a given that almost every Muslim, Jewish or many an American man will be cut. As you yourselves admit in your blurb, many British men feel a little "isolated" (your words!), presumably because most of their non-Muslim, non-Jewish and non-American friends have foreskins. Therefore, it makes sense that they would feel less "isolated" (your words!) hearing that more men of the same religion, culture, background etc etc as themselves are circumcised. As far as seeking information from other websites/forums (or whatever you want to call them is concerned), I have no desire to. I was simply making a point that some people will obviously be cut and I would imagine many viewers of this site would be more interested to hear about the more surprising revelations. The fact that you can't provide that many shows that are are indeed "isolated" and will continue to be so because we are a tiny minority of we are truthful, especially when the obvious cuts are removed from the equation. Given the growing anti-circumcision feelings here and abroad, the fact that many are now seeing it as genital mutilation (often non-consensual), this feeling of being "isolated" is likely only to grow over time.

It's precisely because of a growth of anti-circumcision feelings backed up by a dubious posit that it somehow goes against something termed 'human rights' that we must show strength and solidarity with our cut brethren to counter this evil propaganda.

I agree up to a point. I do think it is difficult to argue against it being a violation of human rights where babies and youngsters are concerned, especially when parents get their sons cut, just because the father is cut. I got cut voluntarily and am very happy I did so, even though it was unnecessary. However, I wouldn't dream of having my son cut without him being part of the debate. When he is of an appropriate age, he can make that decision himself. After all, when it's gone, it's gone ... despite all these gimmicks which require hours of daily stretching to grow it back and probably to a quality which would look ridiculous! My point is simply that I would personally find it more interesting to read that, for example, Peter Crouch was cut than Osama Bin Laden, who would obviously be cut. It's more reassuring, if one does indeed feel isolated, to know that the average man next door shares my status, rather than the Muslim, Jewish, Phillipino, African or American men, with whom I have limited contact in my day to day life. I'm no way is this discriminatory. It's great that so many men worldwide are cut but in my street, for example, or my church, or my social group, I wonder if I'm the only one.

Replying to Mark and his comment about upper middle class Brits being circumcised as a sign of being posh; as a military brat of a very posh Army Officer my foreskin didn’t stand a chance. It was gone within hours of birth! Very happy to be a circumcised Brit, now in exile in the US.

THUK: If you read the limited posts I have made, you will see they are not critical of this site. I simply state that I personally would be more interested to learn of the less likely candidates for circumcision than those who we could with almost 100% accuracy predict would be cut, as one commentator on the site has agreed.

What British men are packing downstairsMore than one in five British men are circumcised (helmets/roundheads), but a lot of our cut brothers have grown up feeling isolated. Categories
