This chap was educated at Eton so one imagines a traditional upper class penis clipping was performed.

I’ve heard that in the past It was compulsory at Eton to be circumcised. Students had to be done either before they started or were done when they started boarding.

Clifton College (Bristol) is quite well documented for requiring it well into the C20 - if not later.

William Hanson went to Clifton College and he said he was circumcised on his podcast. It could just be a coincidence but hopefully Clifton was sending lots of graduates out into the world without foreskins well into the 20th century.

One had read that it was common for students joining the college with a foreskin to be promptly circumcised soon after admission.

Though I approve of circumcision, and wish I had it done at birth rather than as a teenager, I’m not sure it should within the dictates of the school system. Frankly too many "important" people feel they have the right to dictate quite personal matters. Perhaps I am just a bit pissed of with Blair and Sadiq Khan telling us this week we "must" use face masks, knowing only too well they wouldn't follow their own advice.

Having been to uni with two ex-Etonians, neither of whom was circumcised, I can assure you mandatory circumcision was/is not a criteria for entry!

Ben, in what circumstance did you find out the ex-Etonian gentlemen were not circumcised? Did the topic come up in conversation or did you see first hand?

"I was at Eton during the 1980s and it was a requirement, was compulsory. Having said that, very few boys needed to be circumcised at that age having had it done as babies." - Damien C #360 at https://groups.io/g/inter-circ/topic/introducing_roddy/60960020?p=,,,20,0,0,0::recentpostdate%2Fsticky,,,20,2,0,60960020

I was at Clifton in the 60s. My dad had been there, and his dad. I was routinely circumcised at birth, and I remember my dad telling me that when I was born he wrote to Clifton to “put my name down” for entry. Their reply was, provided he passes the Common Entrance and is circumcised... My dad’s comments to me were - well we did our bit, now it is up to you!

What British men are packing downstairsMore than one in five British men are circumcised (helmets/roundheads), but a lot of our cut brothers have grown up feeling isolated. Categories
