Stu – Scotland
Where were you born?
Scotland. When did you first become aware of circumcision? I first became aware of circumcision when I had to get circumcised at age 12 due to a tight foreskin (phimosis). "There's a 'badge of honour' type feeling that you're circumcised which you share with other cut guys." Are any members of your family circumcised?
Nobody in my immediate family is circumcised - my dad and brothers are all uncircumcised. I have discovered that my cousin had been done in his late 30’s due to the same reason as myself but never really discussed anything with him, beyond that. At what age were you circumcised? I was circumcised when I was 12, a fortnight before my 13th - during the Easter break from school to give it time to heal. What is the main reason you were circumcised? I’d had issues for a few years with infection and my foreskin being uncomfortable. I’d never been able to fully retract but it became more of an issue the older I got. It all came to a head when I had issues retracting and peeing. It was causing a bit of discomfort and spraying issues. I was taken down to the GP by my dad and they tried the usual steroid cream/stretching regime. But after a couple of months they said it hadn’t improved much so they’d have to send me up to hospital for a circumcision. And that was the first time I’d heard the word. Are you happy about being circumcised? I’m very happy now, that I’m circumcised. At the time I was quite upset and angry at the result. I had never seen a circumcised penis before and the immediate aftermath was distressing. |
I felt like I had been mislead - I got told they were just going to “snip the tip where the skin was tight”, so I imagined it still being covered by skin and not looking so radically different to everyone else. Took a few years to adjust to how it looked but now I love the look and feel of it!
What is the best and worst thing about being circumcised? The best thing about being circumcised is the look and feel of it. I think it’s far cleaner too. There’s something more manly and adult about a circumcised penis and there’s also a “badge of honour” type feeling that you’re circumcised which you share with other cut guys. Worst thing? Hard to come up with one, but maybe the period of adjustment you have to go through and the acceptance that yours is different looking to the majority of the men in the UK. Where I’m from it’s not common to see anyone else that’s circumcised. Have you had any memorable conversations about circumcision with mates? I’ve had a few conversations with friends (usually when drunk) about why? when? and what it's like not to have a foreskin and what it was like getting circumcised. Most of the time the reactions from them have been kinda grossed out curiosity and comments like “Nah I couldn’t ever get it done”, “No way not for me” but some have been positive. I also had a drunk conversation with my dad at a family BBQ, who I think had always felt guilty for having me circumcised. He asked if I was happy with it and did everything feel alright and work fine. Very awkward but he seemed relieved to hear I was pleased with how it had all worked out. If you had a son would you circumcise him?
With regards to if I had a son…tough one. I don’t think I agree with RIC. If it’s something they wanted done when older or had to be done for medical reasons, then absolutely. But not for RIC. Now, hit The Showers with Stu and see for yourself. |
