With all due respect this isn't a surprise as he is the editor of Jewish News, so I suspect is Jewish himself.

He's not Jewish and wrote about being circumcised at 33. We strive for many things with our little website, but surprise isn't one of them. However in this case, we rather think you might be ;-)

I had seen this article in the past. Does raise the question of why we don't have better earlier intervention in the UK.

I often wonder why school doctors made us expose our junk, because I was at school with several lads who had tight foreskins and nothing was ever done for them. As an adult I have seen guys of my age and older who clearly have problems. I doubt school doctors would dare venture "down there" now for fear of charges of sexual assault, so you can only imagine that the problem will go on for ever. I can't see why anybody would want to go through constant pain and embarrassment into their 30s or beyond. Either way as an adult in would be embarrassing, but a baby knows nothing about embarrassment

Exactly. I caught an old episode of Embarrassing Bodies last night (series 5, ep 14) in which a guy in his 30s had a tight 'skin and had never pulled it back. I cannot imagine how anyone could live that long and never do so. (And yes, they sent him off for a circumcision. He was so sensitive that he had to stay in bed for a week.)

I know way too many guys who struggle with either a foreskin that doesn't retract or that is painful to retract. All teenagers should have a check up to check that everything down below is functioning as they should do to prevent them reaching adulthood with issues.

I know many guys who struggle with their foreskin too. They seem very scared of circumcision and there is a lot of pressure (especially in Europe) to avoid it at all cost. Steroid creams and 'stretching' certainly don't work for everyone!

That's because they are told all sorts of rubbish like 'It's very painful' and 'You'll lose sensation'. And no, stretching and creams do not work for everyone. It was interesting that the surgeon on the EB episode said 'You could try stretching, but I think circumcision is the better option.'

I think another problem is that in the U.K. circumcision is regarded as a joke (or as something to be embarrassed about) - I can remember an episode of Game ON where one of the two males stars tells their flatmate the other guy is circumcised and it became a major joke in the programme. Also, apart from the loss of sensation rubbish (I guess cut or uncut it reduces over time - I am nowhere near as horny as I was when I was 18 ). The other problem is the "intactivist" freaks who go on about "mutilation", and generally implying cut cut guys are in some way deformed or second rate.

You are not wrong. Part of that, I think, is that here it has always been seen as a cure for something that was not working - tight foreskin. The concept that you might want to do it from choice is beyond many men - thought they'll happily get tattoos and piercings and so on!

What British men are packing downstairsMore than one in five British men are circumcised (helmets/roundheads), but a lot of our cut brothers have grown up feeling isolated. Categories
