What is circumsexuality?Team Helmet UK Research Division, 24 May 2020
Circumsexuality is the capacity to derive sexual pleasure from male circumcision. The Urban Dictionary defines a circumsexual as having an obsession with almost all aspects and effects of the cut. We're not talking about a casual preference for a cut todger, but a sexual fetish that can include the circumcision procedure, penis shaming and penis worship. The British Medical Journal published a letter on circumsexuals back in 2007. Written by a particularly vociferous hater called Andersson, it details some spurious research from which he concluded that circumsexuality is a 'disorder' afflicting an 'aggressive fringe group'. Not being funny mate, but you can fuck right off. Do people who like fake tits have a 'disorder'? Or tattoos? Or piercings and body mods?
At Team Helmet UK circumcision is about brotherhood - or brotherhoodless to be more accurate. We're cool if others like our cut cocks and for some of us circumcision is a sexual thing. Nothing aggressive about our fringe group! In any case, Andersson got us thinking, what makes circumcision sexual? We certainly don't think it's a disorder. So, we did some research on circumsexuality of our own! CSX: The Circumsexual StudyIn May 2020 we put a shout-out on Twitter for circumsexuals to complete a survey on how they developed the fetish and what about circumcision turns them on. After we got rid of the spam, we had 100 decent responses from 98 men and 2 women, born in 20 different countries in Europe (58), North America (18), Australia (13), New Zealand (3), Asia (4) and Africa (4). The age of respondents ranged from 17-76, with the median being 39 years. Of the men, over three-quarters were circumcised (76%).
Becoming circumsexualMost circumsexuals develop an interest before the age of 18 (75%). However, like all sexual fetishes, the emergence of circumsexuality is often difficult to pinpoint. For those who develop circumsexual tendencies in childhood, the trigger point is usually more clear, often associated with the realisation that there are two kinds of cock.
"My best friend's older brother told him what circumcision was, so we all checked each other out to see who was and who wasn’t," Ken, 41, Australia (RIC). "I saw my cousin's dick in the shower when we were 6-7, he was uncut and a total biggie, which caused and instant boner (for me), so embarrassing. We didn't know at the time it was sexual, but he grabbed my dick and tried to pull the skin around with no success, it felt really intense," Ray 43, Costa Rica (RIC) "Seeing in a book what a penis looked like and realising that mine had had some of it cut off. That was a great rush, knowing that a knife had sliced my foreskin off," Steve, 51, USA (RIC) "Seeing cut guys in the changing rooms at the gym and pool, loving the look of cut cocks and finding myself fantasising sexually about them and about getting cut myself," Craig, 60, UK (AAC) "I wasn't aware at the time, but seeing the circumcised lads at school in the showers was what 'turned' me! It looked rude and horny and I wondered what it was like going around with your helmet always exposed. I always wanted to know who was and who wasn't. Possibly the first real experience was talking to one of the lads about how and why he was circumcised," Will, 64, UK (AAC) "My first circumsexual experience was jerking off with my best friend who is cut and him shaming me for having a foreskin," Will, 46, Australia (MTC) For those who develop circumsexuality in adulthood, it is a more gradual process where a preference develops either through exposure to porn depicting circumcised men or through sexual partners. "Through playing with guys, I found that some people seemed to love the fact I was cut. I started watching more and more American porn, where seeing other circumcised guys was normal. I developed a preference for them myself and liked finding out who, why and when other guys were circumcised," Tom, 30, UK (MAC). "In my late 20s I was chatting with a friend and somehow we got on to feeling sexually frustrated. He asked me to hold his cock. He had a long thick cock with a low cut. It looked great, hard and soft. We talked about how he got cut in his teens. I had a long foreskin then but I thought my cock would look good without it because the head is big. Then we jerked each other off. It was great," Craig, 60, UK (AAC).
"I hooked up with a guy who was a little older than me. I didn’t know he was circumsexual before, but when he found out I was cut he was obsessed. Wanted to know all about it and couldn’t stop telling me how much he loved circumcised dicks. It was the first time someone had liked me being cut, before that it had always been a weird thing that made me different in a negative way as I’d been the only circumcised one growing up," Tom, 30, UK (MTC) "I became curious as to the difference between mine and the magazine photos (of cut men). I had assumed they retracted their foreskin, but then realised they had no foreskin, then wondered the reason why they got circumcised," Iain, 55, UK (UC) Circumsexual Glossary
AAC: Aesthetic adult circumcision ATC: Aesthetic teenage circumcision CSX: Circumsexuality MAC: Medical adult circumcision MCC: Medical childhood circumcision MTC: Medical teenage circumcision RIC: Routine infant circumcision UC: Uncircumcised Like father, like son?We wanted to understand if there were a relationship between being a circumsexual and having a circumcised father. We looked at all respondents who knew the status of their father (88 did) and found 51% had a circumcised father vs 49% uncircumcised. This suggests there is no strong relationship between having a circumcised father and being circumsexual oneself.
Our research showed circumsexuals are more likely not to have been routinely circumcised shortly after birth, with 68% reporting they were cut some time after birth for medical or aesthetic reasons. The sample size on this was small, so further research is needed to support this as a trend. This is a thing for gay guys right?Certainly not. Nearly a third of circumsexuals (31%) identify as heterosexual or bisexual; 12% of the respondents to our survey were straight men, 2% bisexual women and 17% bisexual men.
"I am mostly heterosexual but I find circumcision so arousing I am turned on by circumcised men. I love cut dicks!" Nick, 53, UK, (RIC). "I guess it's more the other way around for me. All the guys I had been with were circumcised, then one wasn't, and I'm trying to give him a blowjob and I wasn't really sure what to do with all that skin! Do I just push it all back and try to act like it's not there? Do I let it hang and not get my tongue around his head much? Never did quite master the art of the uncircumcised bj!" Feeling circumcisedCircumcised and uncircumcised penises handle differently; urination, masturbation and general maintenance and hygiene usually require a different approach. Circumcision removes all the moving parts of a penis, encourages the glans to flare leaving a tighter, often unmovable shaft which creates an entirely different sensation during an erection.
AC men report their shaft tightness is associated with a firmer erection and a more forceful ejaculation. Indeed 're-do' circumcisions intended to tighten the penile shaft are not uncommon. The creation of this modified penis, often referred to as a human dildo, is a fundamental part of circumsexuality. How it looks, feels and functions is an important source of sexual gratification. Some uncircumcised circumsexuals report using tape and cock rings to hold back their foreskin to emulate a circumcised penis. "I realized that my penis was different to my friends and that’s when I realized I was fascinated by the look and feel of my own," Alonso, 18, Spain, (RIC) "I found about it through porn, was instantly intrigued by the look and was jealous of how cut guys can keep their head always exposed," Yuri, Serbia, 25 (UC) "I fell in love with the look of the exposed helmet and tight shaft and also the sexy scar!" Karl, 35, UK, (AAC) "I love cut cocks so much more. I love the scar and the mutilation." Alex, 17, USA, (RIC) "I remember feeling excited when my friend told me he was circumcised when he was 8. We were both about 13. I then decided to keep my foreskin retracted sometimes using sellotape," Graham, 65, UK (ACC)
"I love how they look, how the head is exposed and how tight it looks, how easy it goes inside a woman or man, and more importantly no smegma in sight!" Mario, 33, Costa Rica (AAC) What turns you on about circumcision?Every fetish has multiple facets and degrees to which fetishees find each part arousing. Circumsexuality includes an interest in mutual and solo masturbation, oral sex, circumcision procedures and verbal humiliation of circumcision status. We asked circumsexuals what they find most sexually arousing. The most popular aspect for circumsexuals is penis worship, oral sex and circumcision exploration (46%).
"I love exploring cut dicks especially scar lines and if the frenum has been removed licking in that area just below the glans. Love talking about it as well with other guys," Stuart, 54, UK (MTC) Being turned on by circumcised guys masturbating either solo or mutually was most arousing for 26% of respondents. "Recently I have found that I can get turned on by cut guys wanking together or even each other, which is something I had explored at school but not since," Paul, 49, UK, (MTC, heterosexual) "I got somewhat into amateur wanking videos, which culminated in my noticing a trend of the circumcised men tending to be shooters when they ejaculated, and more importantly, they had an ability to be rougher with themselves, which I envied," Connor, 24, UK (UC) "I like to know cut guys' stories, why and when they got cut, and to tell my story too. I always find that makes me horny, especially when the guy shows me and as he gets harder himself," Craig, 60, UK (AAC) Over a fifth (22%) found watching or discussing circumcision procedures as the most arousing. "Love watching getting circs done, I had mine re-done because the scar was really thick, now it's extra tight and almost unnoticeable," Ray 43, Costa Rica (RIC) "The whole idea that someone would take a knife to an infant’s penis and cut some off is sick, yet fascinating at the same time. It’s a traditional practice all over the world for religious or societal reasons, as well as just looking better, stalling better and being longer lasting. Everything about circumcision drives my interest - even thinking that guys with foreskins were somehow inferior. I have a good collection of circumcision tools, like Gomcos, mogens, plastibells, read all I can about techniques, the scars, styles," Steve, 51, USA (RIC) "Have been aroused by circumcision for as long as I can remember - the look, the obviousness, the procedure, the style," Dan, 47, NZ (RIC) DiscussionCircumsexuality is poorly documented in literature and pornography. While there are some notable circumsexual voices in the community, such as Circumcision Perfection and CircdGuy, circumsexual porn remains, for the most part, as part of singular fantasy scenes in hetero-normative dominatrix scenarios. Some DIY circumcision dare videos do exist online, which are not for the squeamish.
There is a clear divide among circumsexuals who derive sexual pleasure from the procedure itself (circumfetishism) and those who derive sexual pleasure from the resultant adult male circumcised penis (acucullophillia). There is also some evidence to suggest that circumfetihism is a latent development as a circumsexual explores their own desires. Our results showed a low rate of circumsexuals who were routinely circumcised as infants. This may be due to the relatively low participation from men born in North America, where RIC continues to be carried out on the majority of newborn boys. Another conclusion one may draw is that where uncircumcised men are rarer, circumsexuality fails to flourish for the fact that it is itself the norm.
